With secular pressures mounting, how are local U.S. TV broadcasters seeking to ensure long-term viability? How reliant are broadcasters on political advertising? Those questions were probed by S&P Global Ratings, and they share words of caution for an industry that remains reliant on retrans fees as a profit source.

"For disasters, which hurricanes are, it just plays in to what we are set up to do — to serve the community with local information, and always being there, and proving ourselves to it." That's how David Ayres, VP/GM of Flagler Broadcasting, described how his collection of radio stations serve a portion of Northeast Florida. We revisit our conversation from four years ago as Hurricane Milton turbo-charged his AMs and FMs.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting has signed off on grant support of $2.65 million to increase and strengthen state government coverage provided by public media in seven U.S. states. The coverage generated will be shared with public media stations as well as other media organizations across the states. 

It's officially still known as Gray Television on Wall Street, but otherwise it is referring to itself as Gray Media. The owner of broadcast TV stations and the Assembly Atlanta production facility has announced when it will reveal its Q3 2024 results, and host a conference call for analysts and investors to review the numbers.

Rick Kaplan and Curtis LeGeyt believe " it is critical the Commission study the impact video streaming has had on local television broadcasting." And, regulating virtual MVPDs such as YouTube TV like a MVPD such as Comcast or Charter is their suggestion.

When it comes to traditional Jazz radio stations, the NPR Member serving the Pacific Northwest's biggest market is perhaps one of the most successful operations in North America. Soon, it will have a new leader, succeeding Joey Cohn, who announced his retirement back in April after 37 years.
