The FCC Contours API (application programming interface) has been having difficulties for the past 24 hours. We are observing that the API will sporadically respond but in most cases, it fails.
This will impact your ability to:
- View some maps on FCCdata.org
- Use the REC HAAT tool.
- Use the Elevation tool.
- Utilize several functions in myLPFM including, but not limited to the Encroachment Report and the Translator Interference tools.
- Use PREMIS
The issue is also preventing eLMS from caching contour maps on FM engineering applications, thus meaning that some newly filed applications that came through eLMS will not have contour maps.
This issue is also impacting several internal tools used by REC. We do have backup methods for most situations.
We have put a measure into FCCdata for digital TV records where if the API is not available, the map will still display and a message at the bottom of the map will indicate that there was an FCC Contour API error when trying to retrieve the contours.
The issue has been escalated to FCC staff. We have no further information at this time.
